Effect of weed control and rootstocks on growth and yield of McIntosh apples

Effect of weed control and rootstocks on growth and yield of McIntosh apples

Proceedings North Central Weed Control Conference, 1976 (Vol. 31): 107-108

In a herbicide evaluation in McIntosh apples grown on various rootstocks, terbacil at 2.4 lb/acre gave the most effective and consistent weed control, while glyphosate 2 lb/acre + simazine 4 lb gave effective early season control. Paraquat 0.5 lb/acre applied twice annually was superior to dichlobenil 6 lb and was somewhat more effective than a single application of paraquat 4 lb + simazine 0.5 lb. Sod culture resulted in reduced tree size and yield.
