Effect of wheel tracks on the yield of various grasses

The effect of intensive wheel traffic after each cut was investigated in 1974 in swards of perennial ryegrass Pelo, Melino, Cropper and Barvestra, meadow fescue Bundy, timothy Pastremo and Erecta, cocksfoot Dagoma, Poa pratensis Monopoly and tall fescue Festal. Traffic decreased average annual DM yields from 14.3 to 13.3 t/ha; the decrease was least (5%) in pasture-type perennial ryegrass Pelo and greatest (12%) in timothy Erecta.
