Effect of white latex paint on temperature of stone fruit tree trunks in winter

Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science 100(2): 122-129

Nectarine and peach tree trunks painted on the sunlit side with white exterior-grade latex paint were found to be up to 30 deg C cooler than non-painted trunks during mid-winter in mid-latitudes. The dependency of the cambium temperature amelioration on wind speed and trunk diameter is indicated through an argument based on convective transfer theory.
