Inoculation of rice vars. Tainan 5 and Taichung 186 with rice yellow dwarf virus by viruliferous Nephotettix cincticeps within 30 days of sowing resulted in almost no yield due to severe stunting, increased tillering, prolonged heading stage, defective or no heads, and reduced grain weight and number.
