Effect of zinc repletion for limited times on parturition in rats

Effect of zinc repletion for limited times on parturition in rats

Trace element metabolism in man and animals 3: 436-439

Zn deficiency at the end of pregnancy interferes severely with the rat's ability to deliver normally. Repletion with Zn by day 19 of pregnancy enables the rat to deliver normally. In two experiments Zn-deficient rats were given Zn by injection on day 19 of pregnancy and with EDTA 24 or 48 h later to see whether Zn is required throughout the interval from day 19 to parturition or for only part of this time.
