In lysimeter experiments in 1968-72, water requirement of grassland which was given 300 kg N/ha and produced herbage yields of 50-90 t/ha was 0.6-0.95 cm/t of herbage compared with 1.3-1.65 cm when herbage production was only 20-30 t/ha.
