Liver samples were taken from 4 groups of White Leghorn and New Golden Leghorn chickens, after 72 h starvation, 2 and 8 h after a subcutaneous dose of insulin 4.6 U/100 g bodyweight, 8 h after an intraperitoneal dose of cortisol 8 mg/100 g bodyweight, and after no treatment. After 72 h starvation ornithine transaminase increased by 128%; tyrosine transaminase was little affected. Tyrosine transaminase increased by 197 and 96% after insulin and cortisol. Ornithine transaminase increased only 8 h after insulin.
