Elemental distribution and associations in some alluvium-derived soils of the Indo-Gangetic Plain of Punjab (India)

Elemental distribution and associations in some alluvium-derived soils of the Indo-Gangetic Plain of Punjab (India)

Pedologie 27(2): 225-235

Three reference pedons from the Indo-Gangetic Plain of the Punjab have been analysed for total Si, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Al, Zn, Cu, Mn and Co content. Si is the predominant element in these soils followed by Al, K, Fe, Mg and Ca in the same order of abundance. Mn, Zn, Co and Cu are present in traces. No definite distribution with depth was observed for any of the elements in flood-plain soils although regular trends were found for some elements in the terrace soils.
