Evaluation of crimson clover seed damage by the clover head weevil

Evaluation of crimson clover seed damage by the clover head weevil

Florida Entomologist 58(2): 113-116

In laboratory observations in Mississippi on the resistance of different stains of red clover (Trifolium incarnatum) to seed damage by Hypera meles (F.), a plastic cylinder containing cut seed heads was used to measure larval feeding on 35 inbred lines. Since the seeds were not damaged unless the corolla had been displaced, the percentage of seed damage was based on the number of florets with the corolla removed.
