Evaluation of the seed pod of carob (Ceratonia siliqua) as animal feed. I. Chemical characterization

Evaluation of the seed pod of carob (Ceratonia siliqua) as animal feed. I. Chemical characterization

Revista do Centro de Ciencias Rurais 6(4): 367-373

The seed pod of C. siliqua was evaluated in the laboratory for its chemical composition and energy content. The material was separated manually into two fractions, viz. hulls and seeds, before analysis. The pods were composed of 82.7% hulls and 17.3% seeds (dry wt.).
