A study of three monecious (M) and three diecious (D) varieties revealed marked differences between M and D forms in the morphology of the male flowers, the arrangement of male and female flowers on the inflorescence and the dynamics of their flowering, and the number of pollen grains per flower. For example, the buds of the male flowers, the anthers and the leaves of the perianth were shorter and wider in the D varieties and the pedicel was larger.
