Bananas from new tetraploid clones were screened for reaction to transatlantic shipping conditions. Only one clone had a slightly longer storage life than Valery, but senescent peel speckling, which normally terminated shelf life in Valery, rarely occurred in the tetraploids. Only two tetraploid clones equalled Valery in flavour.
