Genetic analysis and combining ability of grain yield components of maize inbred lines

Data on grain yield, ear length, number of rows per ear, grains per row and 1000-grain weight in an eight-line diallel were analysed by the method of Jinks and Hayman for the genetic control of yield components and by that of Griffing for combining ability. Grain yield, 1000-grain weight, ear length and grains per row were influenced mainly by dominance and nonallelic interaction, though the last two of those characters were in part subject to additive effects and overdominance.
