Genetic and breeding studies on seedling growth characters in rice II. Protein and amylose content and seed size in relation to seedling vigor

Seedlings of 14 varieties differing in seed size, maturity, height, protein content and amylose content received three levels of combined nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium application. Growth vigour was estimated by measuring whole-plant weight. Under high-fertilizer applications, the small-seeded varieties grew faster than normal, as did early-maturing ones, but semidwarf varieties grew slower than normal.
