Genetic and breeding studies on seedling growth characters in rice. IV. Number of effective genes and their action in the control of seedling growth characters in the endosperm nutrition period

The inheritance of seedling weight and length and root length was studied in the crosses Taichung 65 (T65) (late maturing) X A37 (early maturing isogenic line of T65), I-kung-pao (tall) X I-kung-pao 4-2 (semidwarf isogenic line of I-kung-pao) and IR20 (small grains) X Peta (large grains), using parental, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations. Broad-sense heritability was about 87-90% for all traits in all crosses.
