Genetic and environmental factors affecting growth and wood properties of Loblolly Pine seed sources in Louisiana

Data on growth rate, sp. gr., tracheid length, % late wood, annual ring width and cell dimensions were collected from 13-year-old trees of Pinus taeda from five seed sources growing in three plantations in Louisiana. Analyses of variance showed no significant differences among sources in diameter and height growth, % late wood and tracheid length. An E.-W. pattern was associated with annual ring width, but no general geographic pattern was shown by other characteristics.
