Grain yield and contents of protein and lysine in cultivars of opaque-2 maize and ordinary maize, with different rates of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers

Plot trials were carried out in Nov. 1971-April 1972, at Vicosa and at Rio Pomba, Minas Gerais, with opaque-2 maize Ag 504, UFV and Maya 90, and the conventional hybrid Ag 102. N was applied at 40, 80 or 120 kg/ha, and P at 50, 100 or 150 kg P2O5/ha. Applied N had a positive effect on yields of grain, protein and lysine/ha, and on grain protein content. Applied P increased yields of grain, protein and lysine only at Vicosa.
