Growth of paddy varieties in nutrient culture solutions

Bangladesh Journal of Biological Sciences 3(1): 17-26

2-wk-old seedlings of rice Latisail, IR20, IR5 and Nazersail were grown in 3 nutrient sol. formulated for rice by (a) Johnson, (b) Lockard and (c) Kimura. In (a), all cultivars died; IR5 grew better than the others in (b) and all cultivars grew well in (c). No marked effects of the nutrient sol. on morphology or yield were noted. Contents of N and P in plants were higher in (b) than in (c), though these elements were in greater concentrations in (c) than in (b).
