Growth retardants in the culture of chrysanthemums for cut flowers and container flowering

Growth retardants in the culture of chrysanthemums for cut flowers and container flowering

Annali dell' Istituto Sperimentale per la Floricoltura 7(1): 159-163

Pot-grown chrysanthemums must be short and of uniform height, and for some cvs these requirements cannot be achieved by cultural means. Growth retarding chemicals can be used to reduce the length of the internodes while leaving the flowers, buds and leaves unaffected. Various suitable chemicals are discussed; Alar is most commonly used, being simple to apply and reliable. Doses and times of application are discussed.
