Histochemical observations on neutral fat in newly emerged and day-old cercariae of the avian schistosome, Ornithobilharzia canaliculata (Rudolphi, 1819)

Histochemical observations on neutral fat in newly emerged and day-old cercariae of the avian schistosome, Ornithobilharzia canaliculata (Rudolphi, 1819)

Proceedings of the Helminthological Society of Washington 42(1): 57-58

Oil Red O droplets were usually faintly seen in the tails of newly emerged Ornithobilharzia canaliculata cercariae and clearly seen in the tails of day-old cercariae. In newly emerged cercariae droplets appeared to localize in the excretory duct of the tail stem and in the parenchyma immediately surrounding the duct. In day-old cercariae, droplets were seen in the excretory duct of the tail stem and were usually uniformly distributed throughout the parenchyma.
