Histogenesis of the lemma in japonica paddy rice

Histogenesis of the lemma in japonica paddy rice

Proceedings of the Crop Science Society of Japan 45(4): 569-581

An anatomical study of lemma tissue differentiation and growth was carried out in the japonica rice Sachikaze and Reimei. Each component tissue had been initiated before the period of rapid lemma growth. With the start of rapid lemma growth, uneven mitosis took place in the epidermis; macro- and micro-hairs and tubercles developed in the outer epidermis and stomata and micro-hairs in the inner epidermis.
