Histological changes in pigs with tuberculosis caused by different types of tubercle bacilli

Histological changes in pigs with tuberculosis caused by different types of tubercle bacilli

Trudy Belorusskii Nauchno issledovatel' skii Institut Eksperimental' noi Veterinarii 14: 53-58

Based on histological studies of material from nearly 80 pigs with tubercular lesions, and from 33 pigs experimentally infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, avium or bovis, an attempt was made to correlate types of lesion with the type of agent. No clear correlation was established. However, an advanced stage of spread of the infection in many organs, with the presence of Langhan's giant cells, often indicated an infection with M. bovis.
