Histological studies on cytoplasmic and GA-induced male sterile lines of sunflower

Comparison of microsporogenesis in the cytoplasmically male-sterile line CMS2, male-sterile plants induced in the line EC68415 by gibberellic acid (GA) and male-fertile plants of EC68415, revealed that in both types of male-sterility meiosis did not occur as a result of degeneration of the sporogenous tissue; in CMS2 the tapetum degenerated, while in the GA-induced plants it did not.
