Holsteins better than Friesians for milk, almost as good for beef

Farm and Food Research 9(3): 52-53

Over a 3-yr period, lactation yields of 26 pedigree Irish Friesians (IF) were compared with those of 18 imported Holstein-Friesians (HF) and 24 commercial IFs. The HFs produced 14% more milk, 10% more fat and 9% more milk protein than pedigree IFs, and commercial IFs produced 4% less milk, 6% less fat and 6% less protein than pedigree IFs.The performance of 60 calves from IF dams was compared.
