Hookworm in Haiti. Introduction. Presentation of cases

Hookworm in Haiti. Introduction. Presentation of cases

Medecine d' Afrique Noire 21(10): 685-692

Two cases of mixed helminth infection in Haiti are presented in which Ancylostoma duodenale was the dominant species. Of 4,042 faecal samples examined at 3 private laboratories in Port-au-Prince in 1973 only 35 (0.82%) were found positive for hookworm. However, examination of statistics from the public sector in 1972 revealed rates of infection of 41.5% in Port-de-Paix, 38.2% in Cap-Haitien, 7.6% in Jeremie, 5.5% in Port-au-Prince, 1.3% in Saint-Marc and 0.4% in Belladere.
