The highest mutation frequency occurred with a dose of 15 krad; the frequency was the same for both 10 and 20 krad but decreased for 25 and 30. The mutation rate per kR decreased gradually with each increase in radiation dose. Unspecified mutant types of practical value were obtained. One hundred and eighty-five mutants from the M3 bulk population were classified into 19 groups on the basis of ear characteristics. Ten groups were compared with the parent variety Giza 117 in the field.
