Whole shelled maize rations containing 0, 7, 14 and 21% roughage in the form of cottonseed husks (rations 0, 7, 14 and 21, respectively) were given in a 4 X 4 Latin square design to 4 bullocks with ruminal and abomasal cannulae. Bullocks were fed hourly, from automatic feeders, to obtain steady state conditions in the digestive tract. Total, ruminal and intestinal starch digestion for rations 0, 7, 14 and 21 was 96.4, 80.0, 81.8; 94.7, 67.9, 83.6; 92.2, 71.5, 72.9; and 95.4, 72.1, 83.8%.
