The F1, F2 and F3 generations and F1 and F2 back crosses of the cross Justin X Maria Escobar-Newthatch (ME2-N) were studied. The resistance of Justin to Puccinia recondita race 9 was attributed to a major factor, AA, and an independent modifier, MM, both partially dominant. Their effect was additive. ME2-N carried the recessive alleles aa and mm. A single gene pair, Bb, controlled seedling reaction to race 11; Justin carried the partially dominant allele for susceptibility.
