Inbreeding depression for grain yield, rate of height increase and crude oil content was observed to result from artificial self pollination over eight generations. Of F1 progenies from artificially crossing inbreds, 21% showed heterosis for yield and 18% heterosis for height. Regarding oil content, the results indicated that it is essential to test for specific combining ability in order to achieve high heterosis effects for this character.
