After only 2 h incubation on liquid media (glucose-sodium nitrate (MM), 0.05% pectin, 0.05 M CaCl2, or 0.05 M NaCl) there was detectable endo Pg activity in cultures of an isolate from hop. NaCl favoured abundant liberation of endo PG followed by CaCl2, pectin and MM. Spore germination was highest with MM, followed by pectin, NaCl and CaCl2. There was no relationship between conidial germination and the quantity of endo PG liberated.
