Lipid peroxidation in vitro and tocopherol levels in the tissues of suckling and weaned piglets

The relationship between lipid peroxidation in vitro and tocopherol levels was investigated in the tissues of newborn piglets before ingestion of colostrum, sucking piglets (aged 1 to 27 days) and weaned piglets (aged 33 to 78 days) divided into 7 age categories. The lowest lipid peroxidation in liver and adrenal homogenates and the lowest tocopherol concentration in the liver (2.88 nmol/g) were found in newborn piglets before suckling.
