In experiments at 20 deg inhibition of lettuce germination at low pressure (150 mm Hg) in an O2 flow-through system was much alleviated by ethylene. CO2 on its own was ineffective but with ethylene or O2 increased the alleviation. Other treatments alleviating low pressure inhibition included soaking in 10 mu M fusicoccin and pre-treatment with acetone.
