Mermithids regulating the numbers of the Colorado beetle

Mermithids regulating the numbers of the Colorado beetle

Zashchita Rastenii 8: 52-54

After the establishment of Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) on potato in the Precarpathian region of the Western Soviet Union in 1958, several of the native natural enemies became adapted to the beetle, but Mermithids appeared to be the most important in premontane and montane areas. Observations on them in the last five years showed that infestation reaches 64% and more. They are commonest in market-garden areas, where potatoes are grown continually, and foci increase very rapidly.
