The T. matsutake str. studied in subalpine forests formed the same type of Shiro as those other strs. in mineral soil layers, forming mycorrhizae with fine young roots of T. diversifolia, and excluding some soil fungi from the territory. Shiros of this str. were frequently formed on the infertile and immature soil with poor microbial flora and persisted in the forest for a long time.
