Microbiological assay procedures for cobalamin are considered and the relative merits of the Euglena gracilis and Lactobacillus leichmannii methods are compared. A detailed description of the L. leichmannii method, as used in the Dumex laboratories, Copenhagen, is given. Serum cobalamin in 50 adults studied for 4 to 14 years ranged from 250 to 900 pg/ml.
