The controlled vapour-phase release of herbicides and other pesticides from granular matrices is considered. The kinetics are usually first order and thus rival the more expensive micro-encapsulation process. Rapid leaching in the presence of water is a problem but this can be prevented by incorporation of a metal-carboxylic acid polymer. The release is sensitive to temp. and to wind velocity and these climatic factors must be considered when preparing a formulation.
