Seedlings of (a) maize, (b) sorghum, (c) peas, (d) soyabeans and (e) Phaseolus aureus were grown at 20 deg or 26 deg C. The seedlings were fixed in glutaraldehyde and sections were examined for aniline-blue-induced fluorescence, which is supposedly indicative of beta -1,3-glucans or callose. There was much more aniline-blue fluorescence in seedlings of (a), (d) and (e) grown at 20 deg compared with 26 deg , whereas peas grown at 26 deg showed more fluorescence than those grown at 20 deg.
