Bacillus thuringiensis was found to be effective in controlling the first 5 larval instars in Pericallia ricini (F.) and Euproctis fraterna (Moore) in the laboratory. Three doses of the commercial preparation Biotrol XK (1, 2 and 3 kg/ha in 100 litres of water) proved to be equally effective. Increased pH of the haemolymph and decreased pH of the mid-gut were observed in treated insects.
