Morphogenesis of the reproductive buds of Poplars in relation to breeding

Morphogenesis of the reproductive buds of Poplars in relation to breeding

Nauch tr Kazakhsk s kh in t 16(3): 3-25

Data are presented on the formation of the elements of the flower in various species of Populus from the beginning of the appearance of the growing point of the reproductive buds to the ripening of the pollen and stigma. The most similar in these respects were species of the sections Albida, Aigeiros, Tacamahaca and Trepida, which intercross with each other. Species of the subgenus Turanga differed from the other species in the characters studied and did not cross readily.
