Multiple-trait selection in black walnut (Juglans nigra L.)

Multiple-trait selection in black walnut (Juglans nigra L.)

Proceedings of the IUFRO joint meeting of working parties on population and ecological genetics, breeding theory and progeny testing Sessions I and II: 117-128

A new system is proposed for selecting trees or families for several traits simultaneously. It differs from the selection-index system in three main ways: (1) it employs multiple counting and selecting, (2) selection is always for the best trees on the basis of single traits, and (3) the intertrait correlations used are based only on the families that are selected.
