In June 1975, cotton Westburn 70 was sown in rows 10, 20 or 40 in apart at 83 000 seeds/ac. Under rainfed conditions maximum emergence was lower in the narrower rows, but plant populations at harvest were higher. Differences in yield were not significant and yields were 442, 540 and 388 lb seed cotton/ac for the 10-, 20- and 40-in spacings, respectively.
