An area on the northeast slope of Taradake volcano (Saga Prefecture of Kyushu) was surveyed in connection with a new mandarin orange orchard. A car-mounted instrument was used which relies on the fact that natural radioactive isotopes in deep layers ascend through fissure groundwater veins and accumulate at the surface. The survey was conducted by driving along all the roads in the district. Four zones showing a high intensity of natural radioactivity are mapped.
