Forty-eight Holstein bull calves initially averaging 90 kg were used in a 2 X 2 factorial design to compare 2 levels and 2 methods of feeding with supplemental protein. The basal ration, which was offered freely, consisted of shelled maize, minerals, vitamins and urea and provided 10.5% crude protein on a DM basis. Supplemental protein as 50% protein soya flour was given at 228 g (H) and 126 g (L)/day.
