A B. hypnorum nest found in mid-June in a bird nesting box contained a queen and 34 workers, and also P. norvegicus females. The nest was moved into a room kept at 30 deg C, and by the end of July the number of parasites emerged was 29 females and 53 males.Further studies showed that this host-parasite relationship is specific.P.
