Screening of 150 isolates of A. versicolor for sterigmatocystin production shows a different distribution of toxigenic strs. depending on the origin of the fungal isolate. Of 150 strs., 90 (60%) produced sterigmatocystin, the majority of these being isolated from spices. In strs. isolated from domestic animal faeces toxigenic isolates were found in 40%.
