Optimum age and weight at first calving for milk production in Sahiwal and Holstein-Friesian X Sahiwal crossbreds

From data on age and wt. at 1st calving and 1st lactation yields of Sahiwal and Holstein-Friesian X Sahiwal crosses (1/4-3/4 Friesian) maintained at military farms, it was calculated that optimum age at 1st calving for all genetic groups was 28-31 months. Optimum wt. at 1st calving was 330-365 kg for pure Sahiwal and 1/4 Friesian crosses, 350-380 kg for crossbreds with 3/4 Friesian and 380-410 kg for those with 1/2 or 5/8 Friesian blood.
