Pathogenesis of larval Ascaris suum infection

Pathogenesis of larval Ascaris suum infection

Meditsinskaya Parazitologiya i Parazitarnye Bolezni 6: 645-657

In guinea-pigs experimentally infected with larvae of Ascaris suum, allergic reactions played an important role in pathogenesis. During the migrational stage of the invasion, immediate allergic reactions (anaphylactic, cytotoxic and Arthus reactions) may occur. During intestinal infection, waste products from the helminths may enter the bloodstream of the host and provoke anaphylactic reactions.
