In field trials in 1970-1 in the Kufra Oasis, the grain yield and grain size of dwarf wheat Super X decreased markedly as the distance from the centre of the irrigation machine increased. Maximum and minimum grain yields were 4.47 and 2.92 t/ha, respectively, and were obtained at 110 and 390 m from the centre of irrigation. Maximum and minimum 1000-grain weights were 30 g and 24.2 g, respectively, and were obtained at the same distances.
