Studies were carried out on 1- to 2-year-old own-rooted vines of the non-frosthardy Milari and the frosthardy hybrid 1509/53. The soil moisture was maintained at 55-60, 70-75 or 80-85% of field capacity (FC). Low leaf and shoot contents of total water, and low transpiration rates in both cvs were observed at 55-60% of FC.
