Seven young men were given in periods of 7 days 4 diets supplying daily 43 g protein and 2450 kcal, but to maintain bodyweight, flavoured sugar candy and vegetable fat provided extra energy. Total energy intake varied from 41 to 49 kcal/kg bodyweight with fat providing 35% and protein 5% of this. One diet supplied daily from egg 10, groundnut 19 and soya bean flour 19% of total N intake. Three diets without animal protein had groundnut and soya flour 24, 24; 34, 14; 15, 34.
